Rare Pink Flowering Vines

Flowering vines can be used in flower beds, window boxes and trellised planters. Although many home gardeners prefer to plant common and easy-to-grow flowering vines, some gardeners desire their home gardens to stand out by growing rare flowering vines and flowers. Various rare, pink vines from around the world can help add attraction to a landscape while giving it plenty of personality.

Zimbabwe Creeper

The Zimbabwe Creeper, a perennial flowering vine native to Africa, produces trumpet shaped pink flowers while in bloom. It is also found throughout the state of Florida, Puerto Rico and surrounding tropical regions. This attractive flowering vine is also known as the pink trumpet vine. It can reach heights up to 12 feet tall due to its vigorous growth cycle. Glossy, deep green leaves make up the evergreen foliage.

Coral Vine

The coral vine is known by many names including Queen’s Wreath, Rose of Montana, Mexican Creeper and Confederate Vine. Tiny clusters of bright pink blooms appear throughout the summer blooming season. As a sprawling climber, coral vine grows fast, providing shade when grown over an arbor, trellis or porch. It is native to Central America and Mexico and is grown throughout the gulf coastal regions including Florida, Alabama and Mississippi.

Hardenbergia Rosea

Hardenbergia Rosea, also known as the coral pea vine (not to be confused with the coral vine), blooms in the spring and produces tiny, rose pink flowers. This rare flowering vine is low maintenance and attracts bees while providing attractive, showy flowers during bloom time. Hardengeria Rosea is native to Australia and typically reaches heights up to 10 feet tall, spreading up to 5 feet in width. Other types of pea vines include the purple pea vine and black coral vine, which are more common than coral pea vine (hardenbergia rosea).

Hoya carnosa

Also known as a wax plant, hoya carnosa is grown in flower pots, hanging baskets and walls and produces pink blooms. Hoya carnosa is distinguished by a thick wax covering on the leaves accompanied by small, star-like blooms. Hoya carnosa is native to Asia. As one of the rarer types in its species, this flowering vine adds much-needed texture to pink flower gardens.

Considerations

Plant several different types of the above rare pink flowering vines for a distinct look in the garden or landscape. By combining the various shades of pink with texture and shape, the garden becomes interesting yet coherent. Be sure to check with a local gardening center to determine which plants will do best in your region.
